Retired operating engineer from Local 66

Jack L. “J.B.” Bowland, 69, of Hanover Township, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in his home.

He was born October 23, 1944, in McDonald, a son of the late John and Valera Leary Bowland.

Mr. Bowland served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 485 in McDonald.

He worked for 31 years for Local 66 as an operating engineer and retired in 2000.

Mr. Bowland enjoyed gardening and raised chickens for a hobby.

On October 16, 1987, he married Centa Mae Stephan, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Randell (Wilma) Bowland of Weirton, W.Va., Leslie Todd Bowland of Bristol, Ind., and Jeffrey (Brandi) Bowland of McDonald; a stepson, Edward Semerod of McDonald; a stepdaughter, Rita (David) Eiler of McDonald; four sisters, Valera “Babe” (Bud) Menke of South View, Vivian “Bib” (Bill) Abbott and Pam Bowland, both of Bulger, and Brenda (Brad) Carter of Mt. Pleasant Township; two brothers, Richard Bowland of Langeloth and Johnny (Pam) Bowland of Burgettstown; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Deceased are a grandson, Joseph Bowland; a great-grandchild, Skyler Ellenberger; a brother, Charles Bowland; and a sister, Betty Abbott.

Friends will be received from from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, with the Rev. Dr. Tina Hosler, pastor of Paris Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. Marlene Marie Brova, 52, of Scenery Hill, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Worked for Washington Health System

Pamela S. Bryker, 59, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, in Donnell House, Washington.

She was born September 2, 1954, in Washington, a daughter of Audrey Nelan Stevenson of Washington and the late Robert Stevenson.

A graduate of Trinity High School, she graduated from the Washington Hospital School of Nursing and Carlow University, attended Carnegie Mellon University and received a master’s degree in business administration from Waynesburg University.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mrs. Bryker was director of case management, founding director of Outpatient Observation Unit, as well as director of the Diabetes Education Program at Washington Health System, where she had been employed for more than 16 years.

In addition, she had worked at Interim Healthcare for four years and also worked at Apollo Wellness Program.

She was a member of American Case Management Association and board member of United Way, the Washington Health System Foundation and was involved in the Animal Rescue League.

Her husband, Bill Bryker, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Max (Christina) Cummings of Baltimore, Md., and Benjamin Cummings of Shaler; two daughters, Kimberly (Scott) Anderson of Hamilton, Ind., and Renee (Kevin) Urick of Brownsville; two stepsons, Thomas Bryker and Christopher (Tricia) Bryker, both of Washington; a brother, Timothy (Sarah) Stevenson of Alexandria, Ky.; a sister, Roberta “Bert” (Edgar “Corky”) Garner of Washington; three grandchildren, Leah and Kera Urick and Mackenzie Cummings; and three stepgrandchildren, Hannah, Sarah and Avery Bryker.

Deceased is a nephew, Marine Lance Corporal Chad Garner.

Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. System designs engineer for ACI

Donald S. Casper Sr., 69, of Houston, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 13, 2014, in his home.

He was born January 16, 1944, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Stephen “Cobby” and Amelia E. Wojcik Casper.

Mr. Casper lived his life in the Houston and Meadow Lands areas and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg.

He was a graduate of Chartiers Houston High School and had been employed as a system designs engineer at ACI in Washington.

Mr. Casper was a member and past vice president of the SNPJ Lodge in Meadow Lands.

He served on the Chartiers Township board of supervisors for 12 years and had held the position of chairman.

On January 16, 1965, he married Diane Pabian, who passed away July 22, 1997.

Surviving are a son, Donald S. Casper Jr. (wife Kelley D.) of Wallingford, Conn.; a daughter, Danielle Marie Casper of Houston; and two grandchildren, Daniel and MacKenzie Casper.

Mr. Casper was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a son, Daniel Casper, who passed away September 20, 1988, and a brother, Lanny J. Casper, who passed away October 15, 2008.

Graduate of Northwestern Military Academy, Yale, Harvard

William Tecumseh Sherman Fitch, 76, known as “Cump” to his family and “Bill” to others, died January 13, 2014, in Washington Hospital.

Mr. Fitch was born October 12, 1937, in Washington, the first son of Tecumseh Sherman Fitch and Janet Reed Fitch.

He went to East Washington grade school, and graduated from Northwestern Military Academy in 1955.

Mr. Fitch then accepted a U.S. Navy scholarship to attend Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering in 1959. During his Navy tour, from 1959 to 1962, he rose to the rank of lieutenant junior grade and commanded three LSU tank landing ships in the South China Sea.

He married Judith Myers of Washington in 1960, with whom he had four children, Colin, Eric, Tecumseh and Hilary.

Mr. Fitch received a masters of business administration from Harvard Business School in 1964.

After a divorce in 1968, he married Natasha Ignatieff of Noumea, New Caledonia.

He worked at Washington Steel, Star Dynamics and Permaform and served on the board of several corporations.

After surviving lung and bladder cancers for eight years, he unexpectedly succumbed to further widespread cancer in 2014. He died in Washington Hospital the morning of January 13, 2014.

Surviving are his three sons; his wife; three sisters, Rosamund, Mary and Madeleine; a brother, Thomas; two grandchildren, Thomas and Erin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, with the Rev. Dr. L. Worked in nursery of Magee Women’s Hospital

Joanne Fowler, 83, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Mather, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in North Ridgeville, Ohio.

She was born September 26, 1930, in Mather, a daughter of the late Albert and Winifred O’Freal Fowler.

Ms. Fowler was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Zoar Nursing School, Allison.

She worked for 40 years in the nursery at Magee Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, before retiring.

Formerly of Mather, she lived most of her life in Pittsburgh.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three sisters, Mary Fleming, Grace Doney and Helen Sharpneck, and three brothers, Harry Fowler, Charles Fowler and John “Pete” Fowler.

Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Saturday, January 18, in Behm Funeral Homes, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Finley Middle School cafeteria worker

Joanne F. Manko, 80, of Finleyville, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in Center for Compassionate Care in Mt. Lebanon.

She was born April 18, 1933, in Campbell, Ohio, a daughter of Francis and Margaret Grimm Engel.

Mrs. Manko was retired as a cafeteria worker in Finley Middle School of Ringgold School District, Finleyville.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville.

Surviving are three sons, Tom Manko and his wife Patti of Monongahela, James Manko and his wife Susan of Eighty Four and Bob Manko and his wife Laura of Finleyville; a daughter, Ruth Breger and her husband Larry of Finleyville; a brother, Robert Engel of Ohio; two sisters, Peggy Engel and Dorothy Bonaquist, both of Youngstown, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Deceased is her husband, Louis Manko, who died in 1981; a brother, Francis Engel; and two sisters, Marion Moore and Bernadette Eich.

Truck driver loved farming, raising beef cattle

Donald Leroy Morgan, 82, of Avella, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born May 1, 1931, in Canonsburg, a son of Robert L. and Alice Dinsmore Morgan.

A graduate of Cecil High School, Mr. Morgan was a truck driver as well as a farmer. He loved farming, raising beef cattle and was an active attendee of the Washington County Agricultural Fair for many years.

Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Army from June 3, 1954, until his honorable discharge June 1, 1956, as private first class. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Parachutist Badge.

He was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church.

On October 10, 1959, he married Clara Mildred Kelly, who died August 29, 2010.

Surviving are four sons, James Morgan of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles (Jody) Morgan of Avella, Scott Morgan of Washington and Jason Morgan of Canonsburg; a daughter, Carol Morgan of Avella; a brother, William Morgan of Bridgeville; and three grandchildren, Brent Morgan, Brianne Morgan and Kelly Doman.

Deceased are a brother, Robert Morgan, and a sister, Wilma Kordes.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Private burial will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, which had been his family’s farm.

Army and Air Force veteran was a carpenter

Eugene E. “Oce” Riggle, 86, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born September 23, 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Frank R. and Anna D. Loughman Riggle.

Mr. Riggle was a skilled carpenter employed for Millcraft Products until his retirement.

He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Washington and a past member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club and Independent Club.

On October 24, 1953, he married Dorothy J. McWhorter, who died July 17, 1990.

Surviving are two daughters, whom he cherished, and the two wonderful men they married he considered as his sons, Jana (Bob) Roberts of Claysville and Lisa (Randy) Caldwell of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren who will lovingly remember him and made him a very proud man through their accomplishments in both academics and sports and the paths they have chosen for themselves, Marshall (Brooke Manchin) Roberts of Sewickley, Scott Caldwell of Washington, D.C., and Anna Caldwell of Tampa; and a great-granddaughter, Vivian Roberts.

All who remember Mr. Riggle either by “Oce,” “Oats” or Eugene will remember his love for nature – a love he shared with and remains alive in his children, grandchildren and his hunting and fishing buddy, his nephew, Greg Riggle.

Mr. Riggle served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserves and enjoyed traveling to and reminiscing about the places his military career took him. While he was in good health, he very much enjoyed traveling with his hunting buddies. When his health failed him, he continued to travel through the photos and stories of his many nieces and nephews near and far.

Mr. Riggle was the last of his immediate family.

Waiting to welcome him home with his beloved parents and wife are a son, Mark A. Riggle; three brothers, Albert R. “Piggy” Riggle, Frank R. “Dutch” Riggle and James T. “Skybo” Riggle; five sisters, Opal J. McConaughey, Laura M. Riggle, Ethel L. Zook, Virginia A. Briggs and Ruth V. Tustin; and father and mother-in-law, Alonzo and Alice McWhorter.

At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a memorial service, Saturday, January 18, memorial service in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, and S. Timothy Warco II, director. The Rev. Meade Lacock will officiate. All are welcome. Burial will be private. Cokeburg resident enjoyed gardening

Jennie Trembach, 97, of Cokeburg, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, in the emergency department of Uniontown Hospital.

She was born October 19, 1916, in Cokeburg, a daughter of the late Michael and Exa Smiroff Sabolsky.

Mrs. Trembach was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and for a number of years was employed by Century Inn, Scenery Hill.

She enjoyed flowers, gardening and bingo.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Tremback of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Ortiz also of Colorado Springs; a brother, Paul Sabolsky (Mafalda) of Cokeburg; two nieces; and three nephews.

Deceased are her husband, Joseph John Trembach, who died November 9, 1980, and a son, John Patrick Trembach, who died May 1, 1999.

Irene Walbrown, 87, of Washington, formerly of West Middletown, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born July 26, 1926, in West Middletown, a daughter of the late James Walter and Grace Irene Buchanan Jones.

Mrs. Walbrown was a member of Apostolic Gospel Church of Steubenville, Ohio.

She loved her family and her church.

On January 20, 1946, she married George Franklin Walbrown, who died January 31, 2000.

Surviving are six daughters, Laura B. (James) Ashmore of Avella, Carol Ann (Dave) Sterling of Titusville, Grace Irene Baldwin of Killeen, Texas, Kathryn L. (Michael) Sorice of Washington, Rose Marie (Randy) Sochor of Taylorstown and Janet Eileen Ward of Washington; a son, Walter Scott (Deana) Walbrown of Cincinnati, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Shirly Jones of Avella.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, are a sister, Loretta Christine Rush Slansky; a brother, Walter “Mont” Jones; and two sons-in-law, Robert Baldwin and Bruce Ward.
