Retired from PPG after 31 years
Gloria Lois “Glo” Ayres, 86, of McDonald, died Monday, January 13, 2014, in Florida.
She was born March 5, 1927, in Cherry Valley, a daughter of the late August and Catherine Viola Struth Caleffe.
Mrs. Ayres worked for Alcoa and PPG, retiring after 31 years, being the first female manager.
She was a member of McDonald Garden Club and McDonald Women’s Club. She loved playing bingo with her sister, Grace.
Surviving are her daughter, Catherine (Alexander J.) Walker, and grandson Matthew Walker, both of McDonald; sister Genevieve Thomas of Primrose; brother August (Sandy) Caleffe of McDonald; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her first husband, Alvin Hookey; her second husband of 29 years, Gerald Ayres; and a sister, Grace Gimo.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 219 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald.
