Retired from PPG after 31 years
Gloria Lois “Glo” Ayres, 86, of McDonald, died Monday, January 13, 2014, in Florida.
She was born March 5, 1927, in Cherry Valley, a daughter of the late August and Catherine Viola Struth Caleffe.
Mrs. Ayres worked for Alcoa and PPG, retiring after 31 years, being the first female manager.
She was a member of McDonald Garden Club and McDonald Women’s Club. She loved playing bingo with her sister, Grace.
Surviving are her daughter, Catherine (Alexander J.) Walker, and grandson Matthew Walker, both of McDonald; sister Genevieve Thomas of Primrose; brother August (Sandy) Caleffe of McDonald; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her first husband, Alvin Hookey; her second husband of 29 years, Gerald Ayres; and a sister, Grace Gimo.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 219 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald.

Washington Hospital Auxiliary volunteer
Marlene Marie Brova, 52, of Scenery Hill, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born February 22, 1961, in Washington, a daughter of Louis and Laura Dziak Brova of Scenery Hill, who survive.
Ms. Brova was a 1980 graduate of Bentworth High School and, for several years, served as a volunteer with Washington Hospital Auxiliary.
She enjoyed working around the family farm and cooking.
Ms. Brova attended Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are an uncle, Victor Brova, and several close aunts and cousins.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, to proceed to a noon Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with the Rev. Lou Pascazi as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.

Pauline M. Fox, 98, of Waynesburg, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.

Lena DiCeglio Mazzie, more commonly known as “Aunt Lee” or “Manny,” 93, of Washington, went home to be with her Lord Thursday morning, January 16, 2014, following a 15-month illness.
She was born June 6, 1920, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Gennaro and Rose DiCeglio.
Mrs. Mazzie was retired from Lang’s, where she was its No. 1 saleswoman for several years.
Family and church were her life. She was a charter member of Christian Church of North America and loved her Lord with all her heart. Most of her life was spent going to church and church functions, visiting the sick and serving dinner to and spending time with family and friends. She was known as the church hugger and for her generosity and compassion for others.
Her favorite hobbies were shopping and buying gifts for her grandchildren and others.
On June 6, 1954, she married Samuel Mazzie, who died November 25, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Jacki Mazzie (Rob) Berk, and a son, Gary Mazzie, both of Washington; two grandchildren, Codi Berk and Jesse Berk, both of Washington; two brothers, Joe (Connie) DiCeglio of Akron and Orlando (Dolores) DiCeglio of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Frank DiCeglio and Michael DiCeglio, and a sister, Mimi DiCeglio Damato.
Friends will be received from 12:30 to 2:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 20, with her son-in-law, Pastor Rob Berk, officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

Retired coal miner was born in Carmichaels
Paul C. “Buzz” Pevic, 85, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
He was born March 5, 1928, in Carmichaels, to the late Martina Watona. He was the husband of the late Barbara Arlene Pevic.
He grew up in Pennsylvania and lived there until he moved to Virginia Beach in June 2000. He was a retired coal miner.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Diane Sterling and husband Robert and Barbara Priggins and husband Robert, both of Virginia Beach; beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah and Elizabeth Sterling of Virginia Beach; and three sisters, Patricia Shawen of Summerville, S.C., Marlene Smoody of Crucible and Pauline Watona of McLean, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Virginia Beach. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.

Strabane resident
Christina Susa, 94, of Strabane, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg.
She was born April 27, 1919, in Imperial, a daughter of Joseph and Frances Peterly Sladick.
Mrs. Susa had worked at Colaizzio’s Restaurant in Canonsburg and RCA in Canonsburg, prior to its move to Arden.
She was also employed as a custodian for Canon-McMillan School District for 14 years.
On April 13, 1940, she married Joseph E. Susa, who died February 24, 1975.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol A. Karas of Burgettstown (Cherry Valley); a sister, Mildred Woznik of Imperial; two grandsons, Joseph P. Karas Jr. (Stacey) of Burgettstown (Cherry Valley) and Kevin J. Karas (Ronelle) of Imperial; two great-granddaughters, Phoebe M. and Kailey A. Karas; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tyler and Isabella Cherilla; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Joseph, Albert, Louis and Frank Sladick; three sisters, Fran Pavolich, Mary Logar and Sylvia Sladick; and a son-in-law, Joseph P. Karas Sr.

Ohio woman was senior vice president of IMG
Mary Ann Tarbuck, 53, of North Perry, Ohio, died Monday, January 13, 2014, with her family by her side, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She is now in heaven, leaving the loving arms of her family to be in the welcoming arms of her Lord.
Born December 22, 1960, in Wooster, Ohio, she was a senior vice president of International Management Group for 22 years. She was director of global risk and insurance for IMG.
Leading an active life, she enjoyed swimming, biking and walking. She was an All-Ohio athlete in high school and earned an athletic scholarship in volleyball to the University of Georgia, from where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Michael Jackisch; sons Daniel and Bryan Jackisch; parents George and Marjorie Tarbuck of Perry; brother Jeffrey Tarbuck of Perry; mother-in-law Katherine Jackisch; and sister-in-law Kathy Jackisch.
She was a beloved niece of Dave and Martha Tarbuck Ward and Nellie and the late Mike Tarbuck; and cousin of Michael and Mark Tarbuck and David and Bob Ward.
Her family shares this sentiment: “The love you’ve shown, the advice you’ve shared, inspiration you’ve given will always be with us. We hope you know how incredibly blessed we feel to have had you in our lives.”
