Columbia Gas supervisor was U.S. Army veteran

Donald Lee Morris, 82, of Washington, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, in Washington Hospital.

He was born March 8, 1931, in Washington, a son of Wayne E. Morris and Ethel Ammons Morris, who are deceased.

Mr. Morris served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, in addition, he served in the National Guard.

He was employed at Columbia Gas as a warehouse supervisor for 46 years.

Mr. Morris loved to cook, play cards and go out to dinner with friends and family.

He was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, life member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, where served as the post commander, twice. He also was a member of the Arms Club.

On February 4, 1946, he married Bessie R. Crowe, who died April 22, 2003.

On January 20, 2007, he married Ruth Moninger Shaw, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Susan (Jay) Zimmerman of Elizabeth; a brother, Ralph (Mary) Morris of Winterhaven, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Michelle Morris, Wayne Morris, Christina Morris and Adam Hall.

Deceased are a son, Gary L. Morris; a brother, Wayne Morris; and a sister, Eileen Standard.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, with Pastor Jeff Diedrich officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
