Retired carpenter was member of Moose, Eagles
Gerald L. Anderson, 78, of Waynesburg, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.
He was born March 30, 1935, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Roy and Lillian Clark Anderson.
He was a member of Waynesburg High School, Class of 1954.
On February 26, 1955, he married Nora L. Garber, who survives.
Mr. Anderson was a retired carpenter with Local 541 in Washington.
He was Baptist. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Waynesburg and was a social member of Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Anderson enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, restoring classic cars, hunting and fishing.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are six children, Daniel W. Anderson (Shelly) of Rochester Mills, Cindy Anderson Foor of Waynesburg, Lora Anderson of Waynesburg, Peggy Katchmark (Greg) of Rices Landing, Mark Anderson (Robin) of Mt. Morris and Connie Stevens (Chuck) of Mannington, W.Va.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Waneita “Sis” Basinger and Bernice “Bernie” Shuman, both of Oak Forest.
Deceased are two sisters, Helen Straight and Sandra Black; and a brother, Conrad Anderson.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, with Pastor Fred Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg.

Bald Hill U.M. Church member
Martha Angeline “Angie” Brozik, 88, formerly of Bald Hill, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in Hampton Woods Nursing Center, Poland, Ohio.
Born March 18, 1925, in Ashdown, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Huddleston.
A high school graduate in Ashdown, she was employed by Red River Arsenal in Texarkana, Ark., where she met James Brozik, who was stationed in the area with the U.S. Army. After their marriage Feb. 2, 1946, in Arkansas, they moved to Bobtown and later to Bald Hill.
She was a faithful member and Sunday school teacher at Bald Hill United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Bobtown Food Bank. She held an associate’s degree in practical nursing from Waynesburg College and worked as a licensed practical nurse at University Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Surviving are her son, James Brozik and wife Patricia of Youngstown, Ohio; granddaughter Kayleigh Brozik of Harrisburg; two sisters, Mary Calloway of Richland, Miss., and Ruth Shaffer and husband Carl of Fayetteville, Ark.; a brother, John L Huddleston and wife Nancy of Fayetteville; and a longtime special friend, Lola Lewis, now of Mertztown, and her family, Peggy (Todd) McQueen of Mertztown and Allen (Sherry) Lewis of Stevensville, Mont.
Her beloved husband of 66 years, James K. Brozik, passed away May 7, 2012. Also deceased are her son, Kevin, and three brothers, Robert, James and William Huddleston.

Sports fan active at Third U.P. Church
Ruth Eileen Carlisle, 84, of Washington, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in Donnell House, Washington.
She was born March 10, 1929, in Wolfdale, a daughter of Clarence Ellis and Mary Ellen Lodge Ellis.
A 1947 graduate of Trinity High School, she was a homemaker who worked as a private-duty caregiver for more than 20 years and once worked at Mellon Bank.
Mrs. Carlisle was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where she was an elder, deacon, secretary and Sunday school teacher.
She was president of Ladies Aid Society and served on Hopewell Township Election Board for 30 years. She was also a member of Buffalo Homemakers, secretary for the Young at Heart program and volunteered at the Presbyterian SeniorCare snack bar. She was known to many as “Grandma Ruthie.”
Mrs. Carlisle was a 50-year member and a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Martha V. Paul Chapter.
She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her “Hunny.”
She loved watching any sport whether it was on television or sitting in the bleachers of her grandchildren’s games.
She also loved sending birthday cards and loved doing word search puzzles.
On May 23, 1952, she married Andrew B. Carlisle, who died May 23, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, David A. (Barbara) Carlisle of West Middletown and John R. Carlisle of Washington; two daughters, Kathy (Raymond) Margaria of Avella, Karen (Jeff) Pugh of Chester, W.Va.; a brother, Robert Ellis of Rochester, N.Y.; three sisters, Marie Young of Pasadena, Calif., Agnes Smith of Washington, and Frances Reese of Washington; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Ralph and Tom Ellis; and two sisters, Anna Mary Grim and Betty Jean Ellis.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Phyllis Ann Doak Foringer, 77, of Washington, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in Washington Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born December 5, 1936, in Washington, a daughter of Clarence M. Doak and Rose Kania Doak.
She was a 1954 graduate of Trinity High School and was employed as a cafeteria worker at Trinity Area School District for 27 years.
Mrs. Foringer was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, South Strabane Township.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
On August 9, 1958, she married Duane E. Foringer, who died March 14, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Dennis (Bev) Foringer of Hickory; two daughters, Deborah Foringer and Brenda Foringer, both of Washington; two grandchildren, Christopher Foringer and Tiffany Totterdale; and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Patricia Davis.

Formerly of Finleyville
Aaron Micah Hart, 42, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Finleyville, died unexpectedly and departed into his heavenly Father’s arms Thursday, January 16, 2014.
He was born November 28, 1971, in Miami, Fla., a son of Beverly Tustin Hart, who survives and resides in Finleyville, and the late Ronald John Wilson Hart.
He graduated from high school in Miami and attended the University of Seattle.
He spent most of his life in Florida and Georgia.
In addition to his mother, surviving are two brothers, Lonnie Terkay of Lakeland, Fla., and Jaycen Jester of Elizabeth Township; two sisters, Angela Castelvacchi and husband Matthew of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa Falcone and husband Steve of Palm Bay, Fla.; maternal grandmother Wanita Roberts Tustin of Finleyville; two aunts, Martha Halechko and Cindy Newbon, both of Finleyville; and very best friend, Debbie W. of Key Largo, Fla.

Piper Jaffray & Co. executive was sportsman
Thomas Boone Kinney, 66, formerly of Ligonier, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in his home in Washington.
He was born July 24, 1947, in Latrobe, a son of the late Dr. Harold Kinney and Dr. Mary Seamon Kinney.
Mr. Kinney graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor of arts in political science in 1969 and from Miami University with a master’s degree in political science in 1972 and was a member of Pi Gamma Mu social science honor fraternity.
At the time of his death, he was employed as senior vice president of Piper Jaffray & Co. Investment Bankers of Pittsburgh. Prior to entering the banking business, he taught state and local government finance at Ursinus College.
He was an active member of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, Pittsburgh Stock and Bond Association, Security Traders Association and several not-for-profit and civic organizations.
Mr. Kinney served eight years on the Governors Advisory Council on hunting, fishing and conservation. He was also a member of Ligonier Lodge 331, F&AM, Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, Oakmont Country Club, Laughlintown Protective Association, Washington Sportsmen’s Club and Old Colony Sportsmens and was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Trout Unlimited, United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Long Bow Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ruffed Grouse Society and National Wild Turkey Association to name but a few.
In addition to his parents, deceased is a brother, James Kinney.
Surviving are his loving wife, Diane Dukate Kinney; two sons, Timothy B. Kinney of Greensburg and Dr. Ted B. (Amy) Kinney of Mars; a stepdaughter, Tina (Lance) Atkinson of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Alex, Cassidy, Rosalie and Benjamin Kinney and Bishop and Ellora Atkinson; two sisters, Jane (Kenneth) Meyers of Washington, D.C., and Mary Alpaugh of Florida; and a brother, John Kinney of Latrobe.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel Inc., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier, where his life will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, with the Rev. J. Paul McCracken officiating. Tax accountant was coach for youth sports
William R. “Bill” Marth, 53, of Washington died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 29, 1960, in Avella, a son of the late William Marth and Ida Jean Bambarger Marth of Washington.
Mr. Marth was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a graduate of Avella High School and Waynesburg College.
He was a self-employed tax accountant for his company, ATC Business Services Inc., Washington, for more than 24 years.
Mr. Marth was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting and was very active with youth sports, coaching baseball, basketball and football, in which his boys were involved at the time. He was a member of Washington Youth Baseball, where most of the kids still called him “Coach.” He was a former member of the Arms Club and Washington Country Club. He was very involved in the community.
On March 6, 1987, he married Veronica Rohanna, who survives.
Also surviving are his sons, William Robert Marth II of Bethel Park and Alexander Woodrow Marth, at home; two brothers; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.

Washington man was loving husband, father
Jozef Mazurkiewicz, 56, of Washington, was accepted into heaven Thursday, January 16, 2014, with his family by his side.
Born April 18, 1957, in Lisiecice, Poland, he was the son of Tadeusz and Jadwiga Zalewska Mazurkiewicz.
He was the beloved husband of 35 years to Teresa Pietrusiewicz Mazurkiewicz; dear father of Luke (Anna) Mazurkiewicz and grandfather of Ava Maria; father of Michal (Melissa) Mazurkiewicz and grandfather of Mason, Maddox and Mavrick; and brother of Helena Owergard.
Mr. Mazurkiewicz was a very loving husband and father. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20, in Immaculate Conception Church, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, PA 15301. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.

South Fayette Township woman enjoyed gardening
Jane Munnell McCallough, 79, of South Fayette Township, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 19, 1934, in Ligonier, a daughter of the late Ralph and Marcella Wagner Munnell.
On December 16, 1972, she married Jack McCallough, who survives.
Mrs. McCallough enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved flowers. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.
Surviving, along with her husband, are three children, Daniel (Lori) Rinehart, Nancy Jane (Perry) Morgan and John J. McCallough III; five grandchildren, Sean (Samantha) Morgan, Jamie Morgan, Philip “Bubba” Morgan, Danny Rinehart and Nicole (Isaiah) Foust; a brother, Ralph (Ruth) Munnell; and a sister, Marcia (Ron) Cellone.
Deceased is a brother; Tom Munnell.

Beloved coach, Army veteran, Pittsburgh sports fan
Donald Lee Modrick, born May 8, 1944, in Crucible, to Ada Buskirk and Mike Modrick, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014. With his wife of nearly 47 years, Adele, and his daughters, Yvonne and Jennifer, by his side, Donald succumbed to cancer after a short but brave battle.
Deceased are his parents; sister Edna “Dolly” Cheshire; brother John Modrick; and brother Marvin Modrick, who died in infancy.
A veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966, he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Mr. Modrick was a graduate of St. Mary’s University with a degree in mathematics and enjoyed a 36-year career at City Public Service until retiring in 2006.
A life member and actively involved in St. Luke Men’s Club for more than 25 years, he also served on the Board of Adjustments in Leon Valley and was a former director and past president of CPS IBEW Federal Credit Union.
Mr. Modrick was a celebrated high school athlete who lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track and was a sports enthusiast who remained a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates and of the Spurs from his adopted hometown of San Antonio, Texas.
He was a beloved coach and past president for St. Luke Catholic Youth Organization, mentor and supporter to the many youth he encountered, employees he nurtured and organizations to which he contributed his energy and dedication.
In addition to his wife and daughters, surviving are his younger brother, Edward Modrick and wife Kathy, and his sister-in-law, Carol Modrick, both of Carmichaels; nieces; and nephews.

Clarksville homemaker enjoyed The Meadows
Helen Marie Salko, 83, of Clarksville, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 16, 2014, in Washington Hospital, with her family by her side. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Southminster Place, Washington.
Mrs. Salko was born March 24, 1930, in Fayette County, a daughter of Katherine and Michael Kuzlinski.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Clarksville, and its Christian Mothers.
On November 13, 1948, she married Robert F. Salko, who died May 7, 2009.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed bowling, square dancing, the Vestaburg senior citizen bus trips, and visiting The Meadows casino.
She was known for her homemade berry pies, breads, pierogies and nut rolls.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Larry) Lanch of Washington; two sons, Robert S. Salko of Houston and Richard (Jeanette) Salko of Canonsburg; four grandchildren, Todd Lanch of Washington, Trisha (Craig) Eten of Ryland Heights, Ky., Jessica Salko of Washington and Grant (Ashley) Salko of Brookline; great-grandchildren Jacob and Joshua Lanch, and Anderson Eten; and a brother, Stanley Kuzlinski of Dry Tavern.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a sister, Wanda Kuzlinski, who died in the Chartiers tornado of 1944; a sister, Harriet Prunkard of Lincoln Park, Mich.; a brother, Joseph Kuzlinski of Hartford, Conn.; and a brother, Andrew Kuzlinski of Clarksville.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. The public is invited to attend a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20, in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Clarksville. Interment will be private and held at the family’s convenience.

Animal lover enjoyed yard sales
Catherine M. Sweaney, 62 of Clarksville, died Friday, January 17, 2014, in her home, after a lengthy illness.
She was born February 1, 1951, in Washington, a daughter of the late Franklin Glenn and Blanche Marker Remaley.
An animal lover, Mrs. Sweaney was always willing to make a home for any animal in need. She also enjoyed crafts, painting, yard sales and puzzles.
On June 13, 1997, she married Lloyd A. Sweaney, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a brother, Merle Remaley of Washington; a sister, Margaret Gazelle Dicks of Washington; brothers- and sisters-in-law Richard and Diane Ross of Carmichaels, John and Harriett Sweaney of Marianna and Eddie and Olivia Guthrie of New Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.
She leaves her faithful canine companion, Peanut.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are two sisters, Edna Finley and Mary Jane Russell, and four brothers, Frank, Tom, Ken and Bob Remaley.

Virginia woman loved friends, family
Diana J. Trusz, 62, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
She was a daughter of the late Louis and Irene Shuba. Deceased is her husband, Michael Trusz.
Left to cherish her memory are son Chris Trusz; daughter Adina Trusz; two grandchildren Nathan and Nadia; brother Ray Shuba; and sister Yvonne Bunevich.
