Mary Ann Porter

Mary Ann Porter of East Washington died Saturday, January 11, 2014. She lived in East Washington all her married life.
She was born in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Alexander and Catherine Sinclair.
Mrs. Porter attended Canonsburg area schools and went on to Washington & Jefferson College.
She worked in the legal department of the Social Security office until her marriage May 5, 1939, to William C. Porter, who died October 19, 1988.
She was a devout member of First Baptist Church and taught in the adult Sunday school. For many years, she was an avid volunteer for many organizations in the community. Not only did she serve her church as an officer, but she was the first woman to hold the deaconate’s vice chairman post. As a member of Current Events Club, she served in all offices except treasurer.
Surviving are a daughter, Marianne C. Porter, and a grandson, Sean Swanwick, both of Philadelphia; a sister, Evangeline MacDonald of Malvern; five nieces; and three nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Dr. S.G. Sinclair, Mitchell Sinclair and John K. Sinclair, and three sisters, Julia Lightholder, Sally Ruck and Helen Stann.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, in First Baptist Church, Washington, with the Rev. Steve Dunlap officiating. All other services will be private.
