Retired Washington Steel engineer was avid golfer
Harold E. Moore Jr., 84, of Washington, died unexpectedly Monday, January 20, 2014.
He was born December 25, 1929, in Washington, a son of the late Harold Ewing Sr. and Mary Gubanish Moore.
Mr. Moore was a graduate of Washington High School. He attended Washington & Jefferson College and the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, South Strabane Township.
Mr. Moore retired after 30 years as an engineer from Washington Steel Corp. during which time he was involved in the Junior Achievement program.
He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 175 and BPOE Elks Lodge 776 and a member of the Association of Iron & Steel Engineers.
Mr. Moore loved the sport of golf and was an avid golfer participating in many tournaments.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict under the rank of corporal.
On September 8, 1956, he married Jean Ross Moore, who survives, along with son Gary Ewing (Angela) Moore of Avon, Conn.; daughter Susan Diane (Darren) Price of Ormond Beach, Fla.; sister Norma Jean Widmer of Bridgeville; five grandchildren, Abby, Lindsay and Adam Moore of Connecticut and Alex and Blake Price of Florida; stepgranddaughter Nicole (Jimmy) Gray of Lake Worth, Fla.; twin stepgreat-grandchildren, Chris and Alison Gray of Florida; and several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Deceased are several brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 25, in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
