Roy E. Ealy Sr., 76, of Claysville (East Finley Township), died at 5:25 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, in Washington Hospital, following a short illness.
He was born May 25, 1937, in East Finley Township, Washington County, a son of the late Brinton Sherwood Ealy and Mary Eleanor Cain Ealy Wilson and resided in East Finley Township all his life.
Mr. Ealy was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.
He was a 1955 graduate of the former Claysville High School.
Mr. Ealy was a professional meat cutter most of his adult life. After serving his apprenticeship in Jeannette, he was employed from 1957 by the former American Foods in Washington and the former Green Valley Packing Co. in Taylorstown until leaving the profession in 1976. He was last employed as a bus driver for McGuffey School District from 1977 until retiring in 1999, and he was also a self-employed farmer most of his life.
He was a former member of East Finley Township Planning Commission and a current member of Fairmount Cemetery Board of Directors.
Mr. Ealy enjoyed his family, grandchildren, camping and held an interest in International and Farmall tractors.
On September 25, 1957, he married Janet Leerose Plants, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Roy E. Ealy Jr., husband of Linda Ealy of East Finley Township, Jeffrey Ealy, Sr., husband of Darlene Ealy, Michael, husband of Karen Ealy, both of Claysville, Stephen, husband of Margaret Ealy of Aliquippa; a daughter, Glenda, wife of Timothy Stimeling Sr. of Claysville; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, wife of Jason Francis, Brinton, husband of Jen Ealy, Stephanie, wife of Joe Henderson, Heather, wife of Wayne Sheatler, Jeffrey Ealy Jr., husband of Megan Ealy, Jason, husband of Catherine Ealy, Carrie Ealy, Bradley, husband of Hannah Ealy, Jacob and Ashlynn Ealy, Timothy Stimeling Jr. and Lerose Stimeling; nine great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Sydney Francis, Faith, Lane and Clayton Ealy, Ellie and Devin Henderson, Wyatt and Gavin Sheatler; two sisters, Ruth, wife of Thomas Crouse of Prosperity and Daisy M. Mounts of Claysville; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his stepfather, Thomas Wilson; and a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Mounts.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Park Avenue Baptist Church, Washington, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, with Pastor Larry Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Park Avenue Baptist Church, 3750 Park Ave., Washington, PA 15301.
