Veteran was former New Freeport resident
Franklin Pierce, 83, of Independence, W.Va., formerly of New Freeport, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born January 11, 1931, in New Freeport, a son of the late George Dewey Pierce and Huldah Kathern Warrick Pierce.
Mr. Pierce was retired from Marx Toys in Moundsville, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Pierce of Lafargeville, N.Y., and Dewey Pierce of Texas; three daughters, Zelma Gorby of Fayetteville, W.Va., Delores Jean Griffith of Pennsacola, Fla., and DeEtta Pierce of Hundred, W.Va.; a brother, Russell Pierce of New Freeport; three sisters, Lillie May Yoders of New Freeport, Junie Johnson of New Freeport and Rosa Lee Trump of Cleveland, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his first wife, Ethel Snyder Pierce; his second wife, Vickie Prendergast Pierce; two sisters, Mary DeBolt and Mildred Pierce; and five brothers, George Pierce, Francis Pierce, Charles Pierce, James Pierce and Thomas Lee Pierce.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Tennant Funeral Home, Hundred, W.Va., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, with the Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating.
