Considered a second mother to many

Barbara A. Johnson, 75, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in Washington Hospital, following a short illness.

She was born November 4, 1938, in Washington, a daughter of the late Robert Coleman and Rosa Lee.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School.

She was retired as a foreman and group leader of the former RCA plant in Meadow Lands, where she worked for 20 years.

Mrs. Johnson belonged to Eastern Star Chapter 36 and Sphinx Lodge for more than 20 years and sang in the John Wesley United Methodist Church Choir.

She enjoyed dancing, going to the casino, gossiping with her friends and belonging to the local YWCA. She was considered a second mother to many.

Surviving are two sons, John R. (Monika Mims) Williams Jr. and Aaron L. (Sherri McBride) Williams, both of Washington; a daughter, Rhee Williams Ellis of Washington; seven grandchildren, Ledean Williams, Devin Sadler, Jamie Ellis, John Aaron Ellis, Jamie Hargrove, Asia Chandler and John Williams III; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is her husband, Edward Johnson.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. She will be cremated and later buried in Washington Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 1, in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home Inc., 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor and Douglas M.
