Margaret Anne Sarkett, 94, of Washington, formerly of Brownsville, Low Hill, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in her home.
She was born December 16, 1919, in King, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew and Rose Kosa Bodnar.
Mrs. Sarkett was a 1937 graduate of Brownsville High School.
For more than 10 years, she worked as assistant manger for G.C. Murphy Store in Brownsville, and for more than 40 years, she and her husband operated the family farm in Low Hill.
Mrs. Sarkett was a very active lifelong member of Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and organized and led many of the fundraisers of the church. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Lydia Circle of the Church.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and canning. Spending time with her family, and particularly with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brought her much joy.
On September 21, 1946, she married Joseph Sarkett, who died March 27, 1993.
Surviving are three daughters, Margaret “Peg” Foreman (Kenneth) and Susan Kucera (Louis), both of Washington, and Joann Naser of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, William Joseph Foreman (Belinda), Todd Kenneth Foreman (Laura), Paul Louis Kucera, Eric David Kucera (Lisa), Joseph Aaron Kucera (Valerie), Jonathan Bennett Naser and Elizabeth Rose Naser; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph Noah Kucera, Haley Faith Kucera, Megan Kucera, Emma Marie Foreman, Eric Kucera III, Aaron Lynch and Maria Lynch; a sister, Elsie Fusco of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Joseph Paul Sarkett, who died March 27, 1963; a sister, Rose Kovacs; a brother, Andy Bodnar; and son-in-law, James Bennett Naser, who died November 19, 2007.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 3, followed by a service at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Presbyterian Church, 307 Spring Street, Brownsville, with the Rev. Aleda Menchyk officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
