Alex Hugh O’Rourke
U.S. Army veteran enjoyed family trips
Alex Hugh O’Rourke, 83, of Cecil, passed away peacefully Friday, January 31, 2014.
He was born October 20, 1930, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Hugh and Helen Lozer O’Rourke.
On October 23, 1954, he married Jacqueline Frazier O’Rourke, who survives.
Mr. and Mrs. O’Rourke had four children, Gary O’Rourke, who is deceased, Beth (Chris) Dempster of Center Township, David (Denise) O’Rourke of Tampa, Fla., and Janet O’Rourke of Cecil.
He leaves behind five grandchildren, Matthew (Beth) O’Rourke of Mesa, Ariz., Christina (Max) Oravetz of Canonsburg, Jessica (Shane) Rooney of Woodbridge, Va., Ian O’Rourke of Morgantown, W.Va., and Kyleigh O’Rourke of Tampa. He was a great-grandfather to Tyler, Emily, Bailee, Alex, Maggie Ryan and Grant.
Mr. O’Rourke graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Engineering. He worked for the Mine Safety Health Administration as a mining engineer prior to his retirement in 1995.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a good, strong man and will be missed.
Mr. O’Rourke enjoyed family trips, watching sports and John Wayne movies and reading murder mysteries and many newspapers daily. He was the guru of senseless information and would have done well on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” He was always up for a debate on many issues.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Service, 3378 Millers Run Road, Rt. 50, Cecil, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 3, with Pastor Gary Chorpenning officiating. Interment will follow in Venice Cemetery.
