Edward J. Rohanna, 90, of Venetia, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014.
He was born December 27, 1923, in Mannington, W.Va., a son of the late Andrew K. and Gemelia Shahady Rohanna.
Mr. Rohanna had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and prior to his retirement in October 1989, was employed in engineering with Columbia Gas. He was a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Roman Catholic Church in Peters Township, where he was a member of Ben’s Men and the golf league. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts of McMurray. Mr. Rohanna was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He was a Boy Scouts leader in Gettysburg and was, most importantly, a devoted family man.
On April 8, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha L. Hoy, who survives after 69 years of marriage. Also surviving are five children, James (Judy) Rohanna of Gettysburg, Richard Rohanna of Ariz., Barbara Pfeifer of Ore., Brenda (Steve) Bandurak of Murrysville and Susan (Greg) Petro of Wexford; a brother, Robert Rohanna; a sister Mary Rose Wakim; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are five brothers, Kay, Isaac, Woodrow, Joseph and Andrew Rohanna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, 120 Abington Drive, McMurray, with Vicar Adam M. Verona as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation, please meet at church.
