Devoted mother, homemaker

Frances J. Chmiel, 87, of McMurray, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Canonsburg Hospital.

She was born March 9, 1926, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine Szarejko Ciesla.

Mrs. Chmiel was a member of the former St. Genevieve Church, where she was involved with Christian Mothers Guild and Orchard Lake Society. She later became a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish in Canonsburg.

She worked in the payroll department of RCA and later spent her time as a devoted mother and homemaker.

Surviving are sons Michael Chmiel and wife Joanne of Monongahela and Steven Chmiel of Washington; daughter Nancy Chmiel of North Strabane Township; sisters Clara Dorchak and Irene Chmiel; four grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Timmons, John (Mary) Chmiel, Rachael Chmiel and Michael Chmiel; five great-grandchilden, Abby Williamson, Micah Timmons, Bekah Timmons, Bishop Chmiel and Justice Chmiel; and several nieces and nephews.

On July 24, 1950, she married her husband of more than 59 years, Stanley Chmiel, who died April 10, 2010.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where departing prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 8, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
