Eugene D. Karns, 71, died Saturday, September 19, 2015, in his camp at Conneaut Lake.

He was born July 24, 1944, in Meadville, a son of the late Ellis and Mary Louise Henretta Karns.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a psychiatric aide at Mayview State Hospital. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Karns was a member of St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg, Westland Sportsmans Club, American Legion Post 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191.

Surviving are sons Eugene Karns Jr. of Hickory and Patrick Karns of North Aurora, Ill.; daughters Denise “Dee” Karns of Hickory and Sheila Karns-Gierek and husband Kirk of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers L. James (Marcine) Karns of Meadville, Gerald (Mary Ann) Karns of Cochranton and Earl Karns of Cochranton; sister Rita Bogarous; two grandchildren, Caelyn Gierek and Kian Gierek; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Kathleen A. Karns, who died February 26, 2008; brothers Ellis “Bud” Karns, Gaylord Karns and Thomas Karns; and sisters Neva Ewing, Treva DeMaison, Marjorie Maloney, Mary Washok and Yvonne Karns.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000, where departing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 24, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Burial will be private with full military rites accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Prospect Fire Department.
