Helen L. Chappel, 89, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Cecil, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017. She had been a resident of Naples since 2012.
She was born September 25, 1928, in Presto, a daughter of the late Leo Moore and Frances Straus Moore Teyssier.
Mrs. Chappel was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Chappel Jr., and her sister, Betty Folcik.
Mr. and Mrs. Chappel were both employed at Universal-Cyclops Specialty Steel, Bridgeville, where Mrs. Chappel was a secretary. For 23 years following retirement, they were “snowbirds” in Fort Myers, Fla., where they looked forward to escaping the Pennsylvania winters playing golf and enjoying their many friends.
A year after her husband’s death, Mrs. Chappel had the opportunity to move to Naples, and she readily accepted it. She enjoyed living in Naples and looked forward every winter to visits from her sister and brother-in-law, as well as other family members.
She was a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Mrs. Chappel eagerly participated in weekly activities at Naples Senior Center and enjoyed attending Silver Sneakers classes at a local gym.
Surviving are two sons, Donald (Judy) Chappel of Waynesburg and Robert Chappel of Naples; grandchildren Thomas Fitzgerald of Washington, D.C., Ian Chappel of Carnegie and Jillian Chappel of Waynesburg; a sister, Madeline (John) Kosky of Bridgeville; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 9 to 10 a.m., the time of memorial Mass, Thursday, December 7, in St. Mary Church, 10 St. Mary Lane, Cecil, with Father Stan Gregorek as celebrant. Mrs. Chappel will be buried alongside her husband in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Support Network, 660 Tamiami Trail North, Suite 21, Naples, FL 34102, and/or Naples Senior Center, 5025 Castello Drive, Naples, FL 34103. Both organizations were vital to Mrs. Chappel’s well being.
