Albert Edward Steele Sr., 97, of Washington, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born November 13, 1920, in Washington, a son of the late Russell Lee Steele and Frieda Ruetschi Steele.
He graduated from Cameron (W.Va.) High School in the Class of 1938.
He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific to Japan from 1942 to 1946.
On October 9, 1942, he married Alice “Pearl” Bennett, who passed away January 22, 2012.
He owned and operated C and E Imports in Sterling, Va. He also was an owner of Magellan’s Flower Shop in Alexandria, Va.
He was a former member of West Washington Methodist Church.
He enjoyed bowling, golf and fishing and loved gardening.
Surviving are a son, A. Edward (Linda) Steele Jr. of Lake Fredrick, Va.; daughters Donna S. (Jerry) Pyne of Malvern and Alice Marie (Larry) George of Washington; brother Orval J. Steele of Washington; sisters Dora Coen of Missouri and Norma Ruschell of Fort Drum, Fla.; grandchildren Ed Steele, Scott Steele, Christine McKinnon, Vanessa Pyne, Michelle Krueger and Larry and Alice Diane George; and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Russell Steele, and sisters Helen Gray, Retha Conklin and Shirley Myers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a service will be held at 1 p.m Monday, December 11. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
