John William “Bill” Kiger Sr., 84, of Mt. Morris, died at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in his home, following a brief illness.
He was born Saturday, March 18, 1933, in Mt. Morris, a son of the late Ensel Kiger and Ann Price Kiger.
He was a 1952 graduate of Mt. Morris High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 and a life member of Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461 and Bobtown Polish Club. He was also a member of Waynesburg Eagles Club Aerie 598.
For the past 21 years, he always enjoyed traveling to Florida with his wife for the winter months.
For 40 years, he worked for Columbia Gas Transmission, retiring as a well tender.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Harvey Lewellen Kiger, whom he married June 1, 1990.
Also surviving are two sons, John William Kiger Jr. and wife Terri of Washington and Brian Allen Kiger and wife Dana of Canonsburg; five grandchildren; stepdaughter Judy Lewellen Kirkendall and husband Jeff of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; stepson James Albert Lewellen Sr. and companion Bonnie Tennant of Cassville, W.Va.; six stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Hoskins, Doris Gooden and Betty Ann King and husband Harold Jr., all of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He appreciated Donald Snyder and Barbara Bennett for all their care and help.
Deceased are a son, Joseph Kiger, who died in infancy, and a grandson, Jeffery Kirkendall.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 8, with the Rev. Donald Campbell and the Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris. Graveside military honors will be accorded by James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992.
