Neida M. Williams, 98, formerly of Burgettstown, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017.
She was born February 9, 1919, on a dairy farm in Cherry Valley, a daughter of Italian immigrants James and Maria Mazzier.
Mrs. Williams was a 1936 graduate of Burgettstown Union High School. While in high school, she worked in a pie shop where she learned to make the delicious pies for which she was known.
After graduating from high school, she worked for a local magistrate from 1936 to 1943, then became a bookkeeper at Climax Molybdenum from 1943 to 1953, where she met her future husband, Mike Muollo Williams.
They married August 16, 1952, and remained together for 50 years until his death in 2003.
Mrs. Williams volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes School throughout the 1960s, then returned to work as a bookkeeper in 1971 for Coll Tire Distributors, where she remained until her retirement in 1994. At the young age of 76, she began baby-sitting her grandchildren.
She became a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan in 1934 after hearing World Series radio broadcasts at a local store and remained a fan for the rest of her life, even receiving a birthday card signed by Stan Musial.
An avid knitter, she supplied her family, friends and members of the military with lovely sweaters, scarves and hats. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and visiting cousins in Italy.
A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Burgettstown, Mrs. Williams was active in Catholic Daughters of America and Christian Mothers, and she helped count weekly Mass donations. More recently, she attended St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Beechview.
Surviving are three children, Mary Michael Tribone (Richard) of Squirrel Hill, Jim (Patti) of Tallahassee, Fla., and John (Judy) of Mt. Lebanon; six grandchildren, Dominick Tribone of Boston, Mass., Allegera Tribone of New York, N.Y., Emma Williams of Vienna, Va., Michael and Genevieve Williams of Mt. Lebanon and Brandon Barfield of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are four older sisters, Harriett, Jean, Dean and Valia; a younger brother, Jimmy, who was killed in World War II; and an infant son, Joseph.
To honor Mrs. Williams’ wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 22, in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 1109 Main Street, Burgettstown, PA 15021. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in her memory.
Mrs. Williams received years of compassionate care from the staff at Asbury Heights.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lee and Martin Funeral Home, Burgettstown.
