Mary Virginia “Jean” Kevech passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 28, 2017, in Jefferson Hospital emergency room due to a cardiac event. She had celebrated her 84th birthday October 22.
She was a daughter of the late Louis and Cecelia Sweezy Gricar, the youngest of their eight children and the last to pass away of that generation.
Preceding her in death were five brothers, Louis, Joseph, Robert, Edward and Frank Gricar; and two sisters, Ella Gricar Vitoria and Anna Gricar Bastich. Also deceased are her husband of 60 years, Frank “Pops” Kevech Sr., and son-in-law, Chris Amos.
Surviving are four children and spouses, Elaine Kevech Amos, David and Misty Kevech, Frank Jr. and Carol Kevech and Stanley and Pam Kevech, all of whom reside in the Monongahela Valley; nine grandchildren, Bethany (Anthony) Burney, Kevin (Sherry) Kevech, Justin Kevech, Danny (Nikiesha) Kevech, Dylan (Danielle) Kevech, Devin Kevech, Jennifer (Tim) Timko, Jessica (Frank) Crockard and Joshua (Jenny) Kevech; the loves of her life, her eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Timko, Christianna Burney, Dylan, Austin, Jocelyn and Denver Crockard, Miranda Kevech and Jeremiah Kevech, just born in December; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved by all of them.
Mrs. Kevech was a 1951 graduate of Charleroi High School. In 1952, she married Frank Kevech and lived her entire married life on the family farm in Fallowfield Township, where she helped work the farm for several years. During her lifetime, she worked several jobs, including owner of Frank and Jean’s Restaurant in Monongahela and Corning Glass in Charleroi, where she retired after 17 years of service.
She was an excellent cook and baker and loved to play bingo and go to the casino, but most of all she loved being with her family and friends. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, with the Rev. J. Andrew Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, 1660 Route 481, Charleroi, PA 15022, or to Monongahela Area Library, 813 West Main Street, Monongahela, PA 15063.
