Loved his family and friends

Joseph Charles “Joey” Gazvoda, 31, of Arlington, Va., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 15, 2017.

He was born December 23, 1985, in Falls Church, Va., a son of Janet L. Chase Gazvoda of Triadelphia, W.Va., and the late Joseph A. “Joe” Gazvoda, who passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

Mr. Gazvoda worked as a general contractor in construction.

He had heart of gold and a generous spirit, and he would take the shirt off his back for a stranger. He would find a friend no matter where he went.

Mr. Gazvoda was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering, riding dirt bikes and swimming. He loved his family and friends. He also loved animals, especially dogs.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sisters, Theresa M. (Freddie) Simons of Triadelphia, Shannon Gazvoda (Brian Tohey) of Avella and Julie Gazvoda of Tampa, Fla.; grandmothers Lois Gazvoda of Canonsburg and Lois Chase of Bethany Beach, Del.; three nieces, Ellie Mae Simons, Abby Rae Simons and Kennedy Tohey; aunts and uncles Robert Gazvoda of Canonsburg, Patty Lyn Gray of Houston, Lynn (the late John) Jones of Burke, Va., Susan O’Brien of Martinsburg, W.Va., Nancy (John) Gentry of Charlottesville, Va., Marianne (David) Watkins of Aldie, Va., and Wendy (Paul) Covas of Leesburg, Va.; godmother Michelle (Tom) Wentz of Maryland; and numerous cousins.

Deceased, in addition to his father, is an uncle, Thomas Chase.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20.
