James Clifford “Peaker” McPeake Jr., 89, of Canonsburg, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017, peacefully at home after battling many illnesses, but his love for life kept him strong, “…without family, you have nothing.”
He was born January 24, 1928, in Canonsburg, a son of James Clifford Sr. and Clara Anthony McPeake.
On May 13, 1950, he married Madelyn Mary Moss of Muse, who preceded him in death in 2001.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. McPeake of Canonsburg; daughter Sandra L. McPeake-Negrete of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Robert P. McPeake of Florence, Ky., Cynthia McPeake-Nieto of Los Angeles, Calif., and Maggie Lynn Negrete of Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren, Ethan McPeake and Antonio and Christian Nieto; sister Margaret (Peggy) McPeake-Bealafeld of Clearwater, Fla.; his brother, Dr. Robert McPeake and wife Peggy Sasek of Indian Wells, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.
He was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked alongside his father at the Daily Notes newspaper until opening his own business, McPeake Printing Co., that lasted for 52 years.
He engaged in many community organizations, loving the Town Park and pool. He was a member of Chartiers Lodge 297 Free and Accepted Masons, Canonsburg, for over 60 years and was worshipful master in 2009.
He and his wife were social directors at Valley Brook Country Club and enjoyed planning great events and were avid golfers.
All arrangements are private and are entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. A private interment will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
