Marcia E. Read, 68, of Washington, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, in UPMC-St. Margaret hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born June 27, 1949, in Tucson, Ariz., a daughter of the late Col. William and Mildred Borchardt Gentry.

Ms. Read graduated from high school in France, and went on to receive her bachelor degree and master in library science from University of Pittsburgh.

She was described as being a homemaker-farmer-librarian by her daughters. She enjoyed farming and reaching out to young people through books as the former young-adult librarian at Citizens Library in Washington.

Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Read of Washington and Jessica (Michael) Magby of Richmond, Ohio; two brothers, Michael (Margaret) Gentry of Georgia and Brian Gentry of Florida; a sister, Diane (Robert) Hosch of Georgia; and four grandchildren, Bree, Lucas and Emma Bolton, and Lillian Magby.

Deceased is a brother, Stephen Gentry.

Friends will be received for a memorial service at a time to be announced in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. All other services will be private.
