Wilma Harriette Steele Cowden, 79, of Cross Creek Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2017.
She was born April 26, 1938, in Washington, a daughter of the late Mylert Harry Steele and Olive Gertrude Reese Steele.
Mrs. Cowden was a graduate of Washington High School.
She was a secretary for Washington School District for 35 years.
Mrs. Cowden was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Washington.
She enjoyed playing the piano, organ, banjo and guitar. She also enjoyed singing and performing. She loved dogs, cats and horses.
On July 13, 1991, she married William “Guy” Cowden, who survives.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Todd Cowden of Washington and Thomas W. (Michelle) Cowden of Avella; three stepdaughters, Debra (Fallo) Montgomery of Wheeling, W.Va., Kimberly (David) Freno of Cecil and Christy (Wayne) Campbell of Columbus, Ohio; brother Harry Steele (Margret) of Washington; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a niece, Wendy (Chris) Petronka; and a nephew, Thomas (Laurel) Steele.
Deceased are brother Mylert Harry Steele, and grandson Tyler Campbell.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15. Burial to follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
