Stephen Francis Verosko, 83, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, in Hospice Home of Alamance – Caswell County, Burlington, N.C.
Born August 15, 1934, in Ambridge, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna Verosko, and was a proud son of a coal miner.
He grew up in Ellsworth, and was the beloved “baby” brother to his older sister, Florence, and his twin sister, Stephenie, who both preceded him in death.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he spent many years helping to develop radar technology. His contribution toward building NASA’s deep-space tracking network played an integral part in the Apollo lunar landing missions.
Later in life, he was a respected businessman in Manassas, Va. His success allowed him to enjoy traveling with his family throughout the United States and Europe. He particularly enjoyed skiing and golfing with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Verosko leaves behind children Steve Verosko and wife Elana of Gainesville, Va., and Katherine Nininger and husband David of Liberty, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Sarah Nininger, Lauren Nininger, Ben Nininger, Stephen Verosko, John Verosko and Christoher Verosko.
He was expecting a great-grandchild, Emma Rose Dinwiddie.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Va. Additional visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 17, in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 97 Sacred Heart Road, Monongahela.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215, or your local hospice facility.
