Sandra Elaine “Sandy” Johnson, 64, of Washington, peacefully passed Thursday, November 16, 2017, surrounded by loved ones, following a courageous fight with cancer.

She was born July 26, 1953, in Richeyville, a daughter of Joseph Wargo of Richeyville and the late Mary Wargo.

On June 11, 1988, she married her best friend and love of her life, Murray C. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson worked at West Penn Power, Mac Plastics and R.G. Johnson Co.

She was a director of Christian education and choir member for many years at First Presbyterian Church of Washington. She was also a member of Presbyterian SeniorCare gala committee for many years.

Mrs. Johnson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, whose life was rooted in love and was cherished by all. As a daughter, she was gifted by her parents a love for travel and farming. She, with her sisters, learned the love of family and developed their faith in God. Laughter, life and love tied her to her five sisters and their families. She was a wonderful chef and entertainer, who loved to tell, create, embellish and listen to stories. Friends, new and old, always reflected her joy, inspiration and love. She lit her loved ones’ world in a unique and warm, loving way. As a mother and grandmother, her sole purpose was to show to her daughters, sons-in-law and grandson the great gift that life is and all the wonderful things the world has to offer. She shared her wisdom, protection, teachings and love. These were her greatest gifts given to her children and grandson. As a wife and partner, she devoted all her energy towards a wonderfully intimate and passionate love; two who were one, together in their marriage of 29 years. As a traveler, beach-comber, sailor and island girl, she loved gathering family and friends in fellowship. Whether it was beach vacations, cruising on the Chesapeake, trips to the Caribbean or other adventures, she was the bond connecting all around her with love, joy and inspiration. She will be forever remembered and celebrated by those who loved her.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Murray, are her two daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Coleman of Cecil and Loren (Jourdan) Englert of Finnleyville; a grandson, Andrew Coleman; five sisters, Mary Jo (Richard) Powis of Canton, Ohio, Faith (Joe) Ewing of San Diego, Calif., Priscilla (David) Richardson of Brea, Calif., Ruthie (Rick) Armstrong of Salem, Ohio, and Dana (Jim) Gilleland of Richeyville; in-laws Woodruff (Marianna) Johnson of Davidsonville, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

Deceased, in addition to her loving mother, is her brother, Joseph James Wargo.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 20, with pastors Gary Gibson of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Paul Peternel of Christian Assembly of God, Bentleyville, officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House, at www.concordialm.org; Hillman Cancer Center, Development Office, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Center Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232; Washington Health System Foundation at www.washingtonhospital.org/foundation; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
