Charles Howard “Chuck” Long, 62, of Cecil, died Sunday, November 19, 2017, after a hard fought battle with Leukemia.
He was born June 21, 1955, in St. Clair Hospital, son of the late Edwin Eugene “Gene” and Helen Rodgers Long.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 249, National Rifle Association, Owner Operator Independent Driver’s Association and a social member at Cecil American Legion. He enjoyed Penguins and Steelers games from the comfort of his recliner and spending time with his kids and grandkids, especially Sunday dinners at his lifelong home in Cecil.
He was also passionate about his career as a truck driver and drove for Distributor Service Inc. in Carnegie for almost 25 years. He was often quoted as saying, “I’ve driven more miles in reverse than you’ve driven forward.”
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Karen Steiner Long of Cecil; two daughters, Rachel (Bernie) Switala of Bethel Park and Jody (Walt) Kennedy of Cecil; son Chuck Edward Long of Cecil; six grandchildren, Zoey Baker, Riley and Charlie Long, Mackenzie, Kimberly and Luelle Kennedy; two “granddogs,” Troy and Chloe Ann Switala; three sisters, Barbara Andrews and Rose Miller, both of Southview, and Helen Briggs of McMurray; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 24, in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Route 50, Cecil, where services will be held at 7 p.m. with Father Stan Gregorek officiating.
