James D. VanZandt, 76, of Peters Township, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, surrounded by his family in UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born October 4, 1941, in Pottstown, a son of the late James Theodore and Thelma Chapman VanZandt.
Mr. VanZandt graduated from Pottstown High School in 1959 and Susquehanna University in 1963.
He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1964 through 1970.
In 1963, he co-founded Tri State Supply Co., the family business. He was passionate about the business and cared for his employees like extended family.
Mr. VanZandt led an active lifestyle that included his love of hunting out West. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his dogs, Patches and Allie.
He was the beloved husband for 53 years to Carol Carson; loving father of Kelley Atlee of Downingtown and Jeff (Monica) VanZandt of Peters Township; cherished grandfather of Connor and Graham Atlee and Will and Jack VanZandt; brother of Beverly (Frank) Burgess; and uncle of Eric (Paige) Burgess.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, with Dr. James Gilchrist officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray.
