Frederick Charles Meinzer Jr. passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017.
He was born February 15, 1933, a son of Frederick Charles Meinzer Sr. and Hazel Hull Meinzer. He was one of eight siblings. From an early age, his family played an important role is his life.
Mr. Meinzer served four years in the U.S. Air Force, from 1953 to 1957. After his four years of service, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for the rest of his career.
He was a member of American Legion Post 639, Claysville.
He married Elizabeth Huff Meinzer in 1959. Together, he and his wife shared nine children, and he loved being a father. She passed away in 1977.
Mr. Meinzer enjoyed traveling and made frequent trips to Florida to visit family. He even made a seven-day rafting trip down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon at age 73. Most of all, he delighted in his family as they continued to expand.
He married Carolyn Kay McKissick Moore in 1991, and they shared four more children. They enjoyed 26 years of marriage, spending time swinging on the porch, holding hands and appreciating the world around them. Together, their legacy of love and care for family has extended into four generations. They shared 31 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Claysville United Methodist Church, 1279 Route 40 West, Claysville, PA 15323. Family and friends are encouraged to attend a service of celebration of life and resurrection, which will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 27, in Claysville United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mr. Meinzer’s honor to Claysville United Methodist Church, Windy Gap Evangelical Presbyterian Church or West Finley Volunteer Fire Department.
