Sarah Jane Thomas
Sarah Jane Thomas, 85, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Monday, November 27, 2017, in Evergreen Assisted Living, Washington, with family by her side.
She was born November 18, 1932, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late John and Susan “Sis” Fisher Kern.
Mrs. Thomas lived her entire life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.
In her youth, she taught herself to play the clarinet and got a job to learn to play classical music on the piano.
Mrs. Thomas was employed at the RCA plant in Meadow Lands, was an operator with Bell Telephone and Bell Atlantic and, prior to her retirement, was a senior clerk with Verizon.
She loved her daughters and her dogs and cats.
On August 7, 1952, she married Anthony “Duncan” Thomas, who survives.
Also left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Linda (Andrew “Bernie”) Graytok of Canonsburg and Joyce (Harold) Johnston of Cecil; four grandchildren, Jared (Carrie) Johnston, Candice Alexandra Graytok, Casey Johnston and Heather Lacy (Russell) Shawbell; a sister, Roseann “Cookie” (Joseph) Ianni of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Graytok, who died in infancy; a brother, James Kern; and two sisters, Berty Kern and Susan Dano.
Friends and family are welcome from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the time of departing prayers, Wednesday, November 29, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Chartiers Township.
