Robert G. “Bob” McCombs, 89, of Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born December 3, 1927, in Richeyville, a son of the late Robert Oliver and Iva Mae Hatch McCombs.
Mr. McCombs was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
For over 26 years, he was employed by Louis A. Grant Inc. and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66 Pittsburgh, where he retired in 1989. He was formerly employed by J&L Mines Vesta 5 prep plant for a number of years.
He was a retired 50-year member of East Beth Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 395 of Fredericktown. He previously served as a scout master for Fredericktown Boy Scout Troop.
Mr. McCombs was an avid bowler and competed with several leagues at Bentleyville Lanes, where he received an award for a perfect 300 game and also an award for a 299 game. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and particularly enjoyed attending auto shows, where he presented his 1979 El Camino, winning numerous trophies.
On June 2, 1951, he married Joanne Lashen McCombs, who passed away December 19, 2015.
Surviving are three children, Robert Kevin McCombs (Kathleen) of Punta Gorda, Fla., Marta McCombs (Tom Amodeo) and Erin Lynn Hutchinson (Dennis), both of Fredericktown; grandchildren Angela (Jack Benedict), Robert, Kevin II (Misti), Kailee, Kenzie, Kaitlin and Jim; three great-grandchildren, Robert “Trey”, Kamia and Ryan; three sisters, Betty McCormick, Helen Crockett and Pearl Cook; two brothers T.C. McCombs and Thomas McCombs; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a sister, Wilma Holman, and a brother, Edward McCombs.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of memorial service, Saturday, December 2, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, with Pastor Julia Kolacz officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 395, Fredericktown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to East Beth Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 445, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
