Harry I. “Satch” Spencer Jr., 79, of Beallsville, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 29, 1938, to the late Harry Sr. and Thelma Phillips Spencer.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1956, where he enjoyed playing football. Following high school, he played football for the Washington Generals and Pennsylvania Mustangs.

He was in the U.S. Army 66th Armor Division from 1961 until 1963. He was a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington.

He worked for more than 44 years at Saint Gobain, formerly Ball Glass, before retiring in 2000.

He was a coach of Beth-Center youth football for 10 years, former president of Mon-Yough Youth Football Association and an assistant coach for Beth-Center Junior High School football.

He was a member of Beallsville United Methodist Church since 1968. He was a life member of Elks 776. He was president and charter member of Deerwood Manor Hunting Club and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed making custom fly rods and fly tying. In addition, he was a member of Washington Sportsmen Association and Owls Club in Millsboro, where he was on the golf league for many years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed every moment with them; family was his pride and joy.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Joyce Elliott Spencer, whom he married March 20, 1965.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters and a son, Michelle (Carl) Shultz of Frisco, Texas, Kenneth (Cynthia) Spencer of Haymarket, Va., and Kimberly (Steve) Fereza of Scenery Hill; eight grandchildren, Brent Shultz, Nicole Shultz, Jessica Spencer, Ty Spencer, Jordan Spencer, Sidney Spencer and Spencer Fereza and Emily Fereza; a sister, Alice (Raymond) Carl of Washington; sister-in-law Carol Spencer of Washington; sister-in-law Delores Spencer of Washington; and an uncle, Bernard (Patricia) Philllips of New Smyrna, Fla.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, William, Richard and Wayne Spencer.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of funeral service, Tuesday, December 5, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington. Private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Beallsville Civic Association, P.O. Box 143, Beallsville, PA 15313, or Beallsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 136, Beallsville, PA 15313.
