Alonzo Sanders, 92, of Washington, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 14, 2017, in his home.
He was born October 30, 1924, in Clover, S.C., a son of Marion and Cazetta Sanders.
Mr. Sanders served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He worked as a professional driver for Suwak Trucking for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Sanders was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he served as an elder and regular pioneer for many years at the local Kingdom Hall. Mr. Sanders’ greatest love was his ministry to the local community.
On June 23, 1953, he married Ethelynn “Babe” Cooper, who survives.
Also surviving are a brother, Orestus Sanders of York, S.C.; two sisters, Dorenda Sanders of York and Vashti Sherrod of Rockville, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Virginia Malone, Christine Blair and Grace Sanders, and three brothers, Audobon, Jarvis and Ronnie Sanders.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 19, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Cleveland Road, Washington, with Tim Crowe officiating. Private burial will be held in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jehovah’s Witnesses, care of Kingdom Hall, 70 Cleveland Road, Washington, PA 15301.
