Emma Jean Freeman-Ponder, 72, of Washington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 9, 1945, in Wheeling General Hospital, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late Orville T. Freeman and Emma Virginia Perry Freeman.
She graduated from Smithfield High School in 1963. She retired from Superior Valve Co. in Washington after 37 years of employment. She enjoyed bowling with her husband. She also enjoyed going to the casino.
She was a member of Shaffer Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in McIntyre, Ohio, and a charter member of Oak Lake Park Inc.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel Ponder Jr.; daughter Andrea (Lynndale) Freeman; stepdaughter Doris Ann Ponder; stepson Daniel (Marke) Ponder III; brother Ted (Phyllis) Freeman; grandchildren Kendra, Mya, Andrew, Aleaisa, Jason and Krista; three great-grandchildren; a niece; a nephew; three great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
Friends and family will celebrate her homecoming Friday, October 20, in Shaffer Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in McIntyre. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church, and her funeral service will start at 1 p.m. The Rev. Melody Essex will officiate, and her burial will be held at the convenience of her family.
