Kathryn Grimes

Kathryn “Katie” Grimes, 97, of Waynesburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 22, 2017, in her home, with family by her side.

She was born November 1, 1919, in Weston, W.Va., a daughter of the late George Mason Sr. and Malinda “Linda” Skinner Myers.

Mrs. Grimes was a 1937 graduate of Center Township High School.

On June 5, 1937, she married George Orndoff Grimes. They resided in Rogersville until 1941, then moved to East View.

Mrs. Grimes was an active, lifelong member of Throckmorton United Methodist Church in East View, where she served as past secretary, treasurer and auditor and president of Throckmorton United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Emerald Chapter 135, Waynesburg.

For several years, she was an auditor for Franklin Township. She also volunteered as a Franklin Township Board of Elections officer for many years.

She enjoyed raising a garden every year, playing card games, camping and spending time with family.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda “Pug” (Allen) Smith of Masontown; five grandchildren, Michelle (Fred) Voithofer, Amy Smith, Beth (Roy) Beck, Sarah Grimes Lawrence and Michael Douglas Grimes Lawrence; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Bill) Grimes and Onita (Chuck) Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, George Orndoff Grimes, who died February 14, 2006; a son, Edwin Michael Grimes; a grandson, Douglas Allen Smith; three sisters, Sadie Myers, Margaret Powell and Mary Throckmorton; and four brothers, Paul, Mathew, Samuel and George Jr. Myers.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, October 24, in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC, 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA 15359, 724-499-5181, with the Rev. Cynthia Deter officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held in Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
