Dorothy R. Adams, 85, of Cedar Grove, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017, in Premier of Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born September 4, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late William and Helen Wencek Courtwright.
Mrs. Adams came to live in Avella with her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Mike Mosko, where she attended Avella High School, graduating in 1950.
She was a former member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church of Avella.
From 1962 to 1985, she owned Adams Tavern in Cedar Grove, where she made lifelong friends and enjoyed the time she spent there. She came across many interesting people in the bar, including the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bill Mazeroski. She was also the owner of Larry’s Paint & Body Shop from 1966 to 2009.
Mrs. Adams cherished being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling in her league, photography, puzzle building, listening to music, reading and playing euchre.
On July 8, 1950, she married, Lawrence M. Adams, who died December 4, 2013.
Surviving are three daughters, Jackie (Jerald) Strope of Eldersville, Laurie Leeper of Avella and Jerrie (Art Jr.) Foltz of Avella; a son, John D. Adams and April Bistarkey of Washington; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Don) Bell, Peter (Jennifer) Strope, J. Keith Leeper II (Regina Peeples), Matthew (Katie) Leeper, Casey (Jason) Kettler, Arthur (Ashley) Foltz and Andrew Adams; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua, Joseph, Ryan, Lindsey, Hudson and Beckett; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a son-in-law, John Keith Leeper Sr.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 30, with Pastor Bryce J. Grieco officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
