Marie Natale, 97, of Canonsburg, passed away following a brief illness Friday, October 27, 2017, with her loving family by her side.

She was born November 2, 1919, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Daniel Sr. and Julia DePaulo Powell DeVitis.

The love of her family telling her, “it’s okay Gram, we’ll be okay,” brought her a sense of peace. She had to hear those words before she left her family.

Mrs. Natale’s home was always the gathering place for family and friends. On Sundays, her immediate family would be in her home watching TV and filling up on delicious pasta and chicken. Always one to be conscious of her appearance, she was often seen by her family looking in the mirror making sure that everything was just right.

She was Roman Catholic and a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.

Mrs. Natale was employed for many years as a waitress at Mt. Lebanon Golf Club and later at Valley Brook Country Club, Peters Township. She was also employed at Apollo Grocery, East Canonsburg, for several years.

On November 20, 1937, in St. Patrick Church, she married Louis R. Natale, who passed away in 2002.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Ambrose of Canonsburg; a sister, Viola Cerenzia; and three sisters-in-law, Mary DeVitis, Anna Laskosky and Geraldine Green, all of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, Heather and Jared Ambrose, Robert Moody, Brian Moody, Diane (Timothy) Moody Smith and Brenda (Rick) Moody Rectenwald; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary Rectenwald, Alison Rectenwald, Casey Rectenwald, Madyson Marie Smith and Emma Lou Smith.

Deceased are a daughter, Mary Lou Moody; a son-in-law, Dennis A. Ambrose; two sisters, Carmel (James) Malone and Ann (John) Andresh; a stepsister, Yvonne Devitis; three brothers, Peter (first wife Bessie Shores) DeVitis, John (Mary) DeVitis and Daniel DeVitis; and her stepmother, Catherine Marra.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that all do something kind for an elderly neighbor in her memory.
