Anthony T. “Tony” Jaswa, 89, of Ross Township, died Friday, October 27, 2017, in UPMC-Passavant hospital, McCandless.
He was born October 1, 1928, in Waterbox, a son of the late Andrew and Mary Zajac Jaswa.
Surviving are three children, Jeffrey Jaswa (Patricia) of Columbus, Ohio, Rhonda Matt (Joseph) of Pittsburgh and Christopher Jaswa (Tammy) of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; two grandchildren, Andrea Sparr-Jaswa and Nicole Matt; many nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Belvis.
Deceased are his wife, Ann Lesako Jaswa; a brother, Frank Jaswa; four sisters, Stella Levenkron, Mary Widlak-Kubich, Helen Polander and Katherine Hathaway; and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sparr.
Mr. Jaswa lived much of his life in Ohio and was a proud follower of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians, although he remained an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates all his life. He graduated from University of Akron and worked as a transportation manager for Barefoot Sole Co., Ohio Brass and Yoder Brothers.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served on the USS Tarawa and was stationed in Guam for a number of years.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in H. P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Township, 412-364-4444. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 3, in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, 311 Siebert Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery, with graveside military rites accorded by Carmichaels Honor Guard.
