Marie Emma Waldman, beloved wife, mother and “gigi,” passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, at 92. She was the only child of Marie Schonbacker and Fred Schmid.
Marie graduated from Drexel University in her hometown of Philadelphia. She went on to teach business education. She met the love of her life, Norman, at a sorority picnic. After their marriage, they moved to Warrington, where they raised their child and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church. Marie encouraged her husband to earn his master of art in education. This led to their relocation to Waynesburg, where they lived for over 30 years. There, she and Norm founded the Koal Krackin Klowns and the Greene County Hillbilly Band. Both of these troupes entertained many area residents for years.
Marie resided at Ashbury Heights in Mt. Lebanon for the past 12 years. There, she and Norman formed the Hillbilly Band, which entertained residents, and supported the Asbury Heights Benevolent Care Fund. Marie loved to travel, especially to elder hostels where she once taught, “the art of clowning.”
Marie will be deeply missed by her husband of 68 years; daughter Eileen Marie Davis and husband Russ Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Jasmine Marie Geisinger of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Jade Good of Johnstown and Forest Good of Salt Lake City, Utah. Marie was a proud great-grandma to Gray and Cole Geisinger.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service for Marie will be celebrated at 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 27, in Asbury Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the holiday fund for the employees of Ashbury Heights, who provided loving kindness and care to Marie.
