Helen Louise Sams
Helen Louise Sams, 92, a beloved wife and mother, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
She was born February 13, 1926, in Washington, a daughter of Frank and Anna Pikunas Kazakewicz.
Helen is survived by her husband, William, to whom she was married for 69 years.
Also surviving are two daughters, Elaine Sams of Thornton and Barbara (Craig) Graver of York; a sister, Catherine Kazakewicz of Washington; and a brother, William (Cookie) Kazakewicz of Washington.
Deceased are a daughter, Shirley; two sisters, Dorothy Rush and Marianne Kastner; and a brother, Joseph Kazakewicz.
Helen was a 1944 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School.
On February 20, 1949, she married William Sams in St. Hilary Church, where she was a member.
Mrs. Sams worked for Trinity Area School District as a cook, then as head cook at the junior/senior high school for 19 years.
Helen’s cooking and baking talents were well known and enjoyed by family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo and dancing in her younger years.
Helen and William visited many parks from Florida to Canada, and even joked of her longevity being due to drinking from the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, Fla.
After retiring as head cook, she enjoyed meeting with the “Retirement Cooks’ Club.”
Helen will be remembered for being friendly and always lending a helping hand.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or service. She will be buried in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
