James L. Holbert

James L. Holbert, 77, of Eighty Four, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born May 15, 1940, in Mannington, W.Va., a son of the late Roy E. and Martha Wright Holbert.

A 1959 graduate of Bentleyville High School, Mr. Holbert served in the U.S. National Guard.

James was employed as a master welder with Hankison Corp., Canonsburg, where he worked on projects for the U.S. Navy and NASA. He retired in 2003 with 40 years of service.

He was a member of United Steelworkers of America, Bentleyville Eagles and Polaski Club of Washington.

Mr. Holbert enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, going to flea markets, woodworking and working around the house. He was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, “Buddy.”

On January 14, 1960, he married Joan C. Fine, who survives. Together, they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Also surviving are a daughter, Teresa Kusch (William Jr.) of Washington; a son, James G. Holbert (Tanya) of Eighty Four; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Levina Griffith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13. Interment will follow in Monongahela Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
