Paula Marie Szalay, 66, of California, died peacefully Sunday, April 8, 2018.
She was born Monday, March 24, 1952, in Brownsville, a daughter of the late Paul and Eva Starinsky Matey.
She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, formerly St. Thomas Aquinas.
Paula was an administrative assistant for Centerville Clinics.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, David Szalay (1983), and a brother, Paul Matey (2009).
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Christopher Szalay and wife Joanna of Canonsburg and Benjamin Szalay and wife Dawn of Ruffs Dale; three brothers and three sisters, Michael Matey of Cleveland, Ohio, Joyce Prohaska and husband Jim of Lakewood, Ohio, Kathleen Sungala and husband Daryl of Port Charlotte, Fla., Gary and wife Michele Matey of Greensburg, Roger Matey of Bradford and Jennifer Boggs and husband Tim of Carrolton, Va. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mia and David Szalay, Talon Schoedel and Lilla Szalay; nieces and nephews Gregory Prohaska and wife Gina, Melanie Prohaska and husband Chris Miller and Gabriella, Garrett, Gavin and Gage Matey; and great-niece and nephew Breanna and Gregory Prohaska.
Friends will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, and until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12, when prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Katharine Drexel Parish, California Campus (formerly St. Thomas Aquinas), 409 Union Street, California, with Father Jeremy Mohler as celebrant. Interment will be private and at the convenience of her family.
