John Joseph Wild

John Joseph “Jack” Wild, 95, of Portage, went to heaven to join his wife, Ruth, and live in the glory of his God, Friday, April 13, 2018.

He was born in Portage July 9, 1922 a son of John and Pearl Over Wild.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Inman Wild, to whom he was married for 67 years; his parents; infant son Gerald; sister Genevieve Feathers; brother Robert Wild; brother-in-law Earl Feathers; and daughter-in-law Cathy Davis Wild.

Jack is survived by his children, Robert and wife Sally of Canonsburg, Karen, wife of Jim Hurtack, of Ebensburg and Thomas and wife Becky of Washington; a sister-in-law, Vaughn Thomas Wild; seven grandchildren;nine great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

Jack was dedicated to his children and grandchildren, and he was the love of their lives. He was a loving and gentle man who always put family first. His favorite pastime was gardening. He was formerly employed by Portage Cleaners. Jack was a lifetime resident of Portage and he was a devoted member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer and also worked as a janitor after his retirement for Portage Cleaners. He enjoyed his years coaching Portage Little League. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in Bethany United Methodist Church, Portage, with Pastor Arthur Black, officiating. Committal in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Cresson. Graveside Military Rites by the Portage Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Jack’s name to Blind Association of Johnstown, Bethany United Methodist Church of Portage, Crichton McCormick Park, John F. Kennedy Catholic School of Washington or Trinity United Methodist Church of McMurray.
