Joseph Zelinsky

Joseph Zelinsky, 98, of Van Voorhis, died Sunday, April 22, 2018, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born March 14, 1920, in Donora, a son of the late Martin and Anna Siba Zelinsky.

Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He served with the first infantry as a forward observer in the Big Red One, touring in seven countries, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Joe was awarded three Bronze Stars for his military service.

Joe retired from BethEnergy Mines, Mine 51 in Ellsworth, where he worked for 47 years. He was a member of Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.

Surviving are his sons, Lawrence of Fallowfield Township, Ronald and Donald, both of Monongahela and Joseph (Patricia) of Fallowfield Township; sister Margaret Burgoyne of Monongahela; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, deceased are his wife, Christena; three brothers, John, Martin and Thomas; three sisters, Ann, Mary and Theresa; and his grandchild, Amy.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes Inc., 405 Main Street, Bentleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, in St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville, with the Rev. Edward Yuhas officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
