Dean R. Shalvis

Dean R. Shalvis, 66, of Avella, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in Donnell House, Concordia Hospice of Washington.

He was born July 10, 1951, in Washington, a son of the late Frank and Geraldine Elizabeth Pizer Shalvis.

Mr. Shalvis was a 1969 graduate of Avella High School. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America for 30 years, retiring from Windsor Coal.

Mr. Shalvis was a member of Richard Vaux Masonic Lodge 454, Burgettstown, and a former member of SNPJ Lodge 292, Avella.

He was Christian. He loved his pets, studying the word of God, his motorcycles, archery and spending time with family.

Mr. Shalvis was a lifelong resident of Avella.

Surviving are a sister, Linda L. Shalvis of Washington; two brothers, Thomas (Donna) Shalvis of Wellsburg, W.Va., and Ronald (Peggy) Shalvis of Aliquippa; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Shalvis of Avella; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his twin brother, Dane Shalvis.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, with Pastor Robert Miller officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Avella. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1000 Jefferson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
