Richard H. Lewis

Richard H. Lewis, 91, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.

He was born July 9, 1926, in East Bethlehem, a son of the late Paul and Bessie Hazlett Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was a member of Lone Pine Christian Church and a 1945 graduate of Trinity High School.

He was a union carpenter and worked the family farm along with his wife.

Mr. Lewis was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Air Forces Army during World War II as a crew chief of a B-29, stationed in Okinawa.

On March 31, 1950, in Washington, he married Rodell Finch. Mrs. Lewis survives.

Also surviving are a son, Richard (Darla) Lewis of Washington; a daughter, Paula M. (Ralph) Ferry of Washington: a sister, Betty Lewis (Bob) Sprague of Nazareth; three grandchildren, Chris (Alberta) Lewis, Michelle (Neil) Vernocy and Ashley (Ian) Howsare; four great-grandchildren, Christian Lewis, Julia Howsare and Taylor and Sydney Vernocy; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Paul “Buster” Lewis, and a sister, Mary Bash.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at noon Tuesday, May 1, with Pastor John Owen officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Washington Women’s Shelter, Hospice 365, Lone Pine Christian Church or a children’s charity of the donor’s church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Directors Inc., Charles R. Piatt, supervisor, Lawrence K. Donovan, director.
