Robert Frank Steiner Jr.
Robert Frank “Bob” Steiner Jr., 76, of Meadow Lands, died Sunday, August 5, 2018, in his home.
He was born March 19, 1942, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Robert Frank Sr. and Barbara Ann Boyan Steiner.
Mr. Steiner was Methodist.
He was a 1960 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School.
After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician from 1960 to 1964, at which time he was honorably discharged. While in the Navy, he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Oceana, Virginia Beach, Va. He was also stationed for a period of time in Argentia, Newfoundland, where he studied and practiced the art of Judo, attaining the level of brown belt.
Following his military service, Mr. Steiner received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in special education from California University of Pennsylvania.
His teaching career, which spanned more than 30 years, began at Bentworth High School, where he taught special education. Mr. Steiner later went on to create and start the special education program at Western Area Vocational Technical Center, from where he retired after many years of dedicated service in the special education field.
Mr. Steiner was a member of American Legion Post 902, Houston. He enjoyed music and playing the accordion. Mr. Steiner at one time was a member of the band “The Vandels,” where he played the keyboard. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, reminiscing and telling stories and coaching his daughter’s youth sports teams. Mr. Steiner was proud of his Slovenian and Croatian heritage and enjoyed making his signature kielbasa and sauerkraut. Most of all, he enjoyed all the time he spent with his family.
On April 1, 2003, he married Maxine Butera, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Elaine (Brian) Decima of Washington and Laura Elaine (Neil) Cwynar of Pittsburgh; stepdaughter Cynthia Lyn (Alisa Vogelsang) Butera of Ohio; stepson Justin McFeely Butera of Claysville; sister Barbara Donovan of Aliquippa; granddaughter Sara Elaine Setto; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his first wife, Dorothy Elaine Steiner, and a brother, Frederick Thomas Steiner.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 9. Burial will be held privately in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military honors accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, Canonsburg, and the U.S. Navy.
