Donald S. Lovett
Donald S. Lovett, 91, of Essington, formerly of Monongahela, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
He was born April 6, 1927, in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of Lane P. and Thelma F. Snyder Lovett.
Donald was a 1945 graduate of Monongahela High School and a 1956 graduate of University of Pittsburgh, earning a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
Donald initially worked as a machinist for Lee Norse Co. in Charleroi. Thereafter, he was an engineer for Westinghouse Power Generation (Gas Turbine) Division in Philadelphia for many years. The last 15 years of his working career were in the aircraft industry as a turbine engineer with Dallas Airmotive Inc. in Millville, N.J., until his retirement in 1999.
Mr. Lovett was a registered professional engineer with Professional Society of Engineers and was a member of the Delaware County chapter. He was also a member of University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association.
Donald attended First Presbyterian Church, Finleyville, and Ridley Park Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his companion, Elinor E. Battinieri; granddaughter Karen Lovett of Monongahela; two great-grandchildren, Christine and Ashton Lovett; two great-great-grandchildren, Gracie and Bailey Lovett; brother Lane P. (Carole) Lovett of Charleroi; sister Joann McMillen of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his son, Donald L. Lovett, and his brother, John B. Lovett.
Friends are invited to gather in the chapel of Monongahela Cemetery for visitation at 10 a.m. Friday, August 10, followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Mark Woomer officiating and a committal service, with military honors accorded by Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
