Donna J. Patten
Donna J. Patten, 78, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully with family by her side Tuesday, August 7, 2018, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh, following a massive stroke.
She was born August 1, 1940, in Washington, a daughter of Kenneth W.W. and Adeline Dagg Ward.
Mrs. Patten worked for Glass Rock in Washington and retired from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Following her retirement, she became a school crossing guard in Jacksonville Beach and, after returning to Pennsylvania, did the same for Peters Township School District.
Donna was a 1958 graduate of Trinity High School and was an active member of Avery United Methodist Church, Washington.
She was very passionate about bowling and was a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress. Donna belonged to several bowling leagues while she lived in Florida, and when she moved back to the area she belonged to leagues in Canonsburg and Washington. She was most proud of qualifying to bowl in a national tournament in Reno, Nev.
On December 26, 1992, she married her soulmate, Robert E. Patten, who passed away January 13, 2014.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly A. Penvose (Robert) of Houston and Luanna Donnelly of Londonderry, N.H.; four sons, David E. Chadwick of Washington, Robert E. Patten Jr. of Norfolk, Va., Paul Patten of Sykesville, Md., and William Patten (Kristina) of Gainesville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie, Alexander, Natalie, Marcus, Jacob and Lillian Chadwick, Robert Penvose Jr. (Annie), Kristie Coppola (Dan), Denny Donnelly (Sara), Sean Donnelly (Jillian), and Mackenzie, Nina and Zachery Patten; four great-grandchildren, Ian and Katie Penvose, Lily Liu Coppola and Callan Donnelly; a sister, Karen Crawford of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Caroline Ward.
Donna also leaves behind her faithful companion, Kisses, whom she adored.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, in Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, with the Rev. Eric Hoeke officiating. Private interment will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
