Ila Matheny Ford, 93, of Carroll Township, went to join her Lord and Savior Sunday, August 12, 2018.
She was born February 23, 1925, in Monongahela, a daughter of Guy Emanuel and Dolly Verna Malone Matheny.
After high school, she worked for People’s Gas and Liggett Spring and Axle.
Ila was a very active member of First Baptist Church Monongahela. She was the church’s first Mother of the Year in 2007. She taught Sunday and Bible school for many years. She was a member of the Monongahela Chapter of AARP.
Ila was always baking or cooking for others that were sick or bereaved. Her family and church were her life and is described by her family as “a beautiful person that lived a beautiful life.”
On December 20, 1946, she married the love of her life, John Vernon Ford of Carroll Township. They would have celebrated their 73rd anniversary this year.
Ila is survived by her loving children, Pamela (Charles) Trude of Warrenton, Va., Barbara (Charles) Renner of Berryville, Va., and Tim (Jodi) Ford of North Strabane Township; five grandchildren, Heidi and David Trude, Airiel Renner, Shelby (Josh) Snyder and Logan Ford; two sisters, Lona Hodson of Anchorage, Ark., and Verna Marriott of Charleroi; and a brother, G. Edwin (Doris) Matheny of Greensburg.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Frye Funeral Homes Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Additional visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, August 18, in First Baptist Church, Monongahela, with the Rev. Mark Schollaer and the Rev. Kenny Kirby presiding. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
